“Artivism: creativity as a new form of political expression”

This is a video titled “Artivism: creativity as a new form of political expression” This is a video that I found on YouTube and was published in September 2016 by the University of Lausanne, which is in Lausanne Switzerland. This video discusses research that is being done around artivism in different places in the world. What I really like about this video is that it highlights how artivism is seen in many different places in the world. I also like how the video highlights what the art in “artivism” can be. I think that most people will be quick to think about this art has being painting on walls or drawing, but it is much bigger than that. It can be art in the form of performances, murals, graphic novels and many more artistic forms. I appreciate that the video mentioned this, and that the researchers are looking at many different forms of art and how they part of activism. The only thing that I think I disagree with about this video is the title. I would argue that using art is not at all a new form of political expression. Sure using the word artivism is, but the concept has been used prior to the name. This will be the first aspect of artivism that I will be looking at. I will be exploring the historical aspect of artivism, because it is important to understand the historical context and the relationship between art and artivism.
